Come From Love

I recently finished a fabulous book called “Wedding Planner Problems” by Crystal Adair-Benning, a top Canadian wedding planner with a great sense of humour and a big heart. I took away a great number of lessons from this 140 page book, which had a lot of heartfelt moments, sad moments, and many laugh out loud moments in between. One big takeaway I got from it was that if you come from a place of love, all will be okay.

I tested this out today. I mentally told myself to “come from love.” My brain responded and nothing could go wrong when you come from a place of love. Truly!

Here’s how Crystal puts it:

And it’s really that simple. “When all else fails; choose love. Love changes everything.” If you’re having a bad day, there’s an angry customer, or your boss snaps at you – choose love. You’d be surprised at how quickly how your “natural reaction” dissipates when you intentionally choose love.

I put a sticky note on page 101 where Crystal writes: “I truly believe our experiences teach us in ways words never could. This experience changed my life.”

You’d have to get the book to read the life-altering moment of this wedding planner. This excerpt among many other of Crystal’s experiences resonated with me. Everything from how her ex-husband brought out the worst in her (I had the same with an ex-boyfriend) and how her current beau brings out the best in her (I know that I’ve found the one when this happens to me) and how “weddings like life, NEVER go as planned. Shit happens a lot. But it’s all in how you handle it” hit home. When I read the titles of each chapter, I just knew I was in for a treat.

Like Crystal, I’ve always wanted to be a published author. And I will be. I already know exactly where I will be writing it. Writing was something I knew that I always wanted to pursue. The wedding planning part came a little later… but guess what? I’m doing the latter first and the first latter… and that’s totally fine by me. Because what I’ve come to realize is that when you experience more, you naturally have more to write about. I’m in no rush – and am actually very excited to have a project to look forward to in the future!

For current and future brides, choosing to laugh when something doesn’t go exactly as planned makes the world of a difference. Focus on your guests and have a great party. Enjoy your union as a newly married couple. When you purposefully look for flaws (like a slanted napkin on a table), you will find surely find them and then some – at the cost of you truly enjoying your big day. Your wedding day may look glamorous (as it should) and you will feel like rockstars that day (as you should) – but the behind the scenes may surprise you and that’s what this book shows you: the good, bad and the ugly, which is what makes it such an authentic read.

“Wedding Planner Problems” is a great book for the industry professional who can relate to these crazy stories as well as for a curious reader who’s always wanted to know the behind the scenes a la wedding planner. You can purchase the book by clicking here.

And here’s me with this awesome read, in my PJ’s, as yes, we do indeed sometimes do real work sans make-up in our most comfy clothes!
